| 09-26-02 BEN CHECKS IN |
"
It’s going to be a little weird for me, this being the last time I’m going to ride in a World Superbike event for a while against these guys and the last time I’ll be working with my crew
".
Ok you guys, please be prepared for a pretty quiet diary from me this week as I’ve not being doing a real lot, in fact, I’m having to sit here right now and kinda rack my brains for news, or even remember what I’ve been doing…
I was in Munich for the Intermot show. That’s a pretty big show, in fact, I’d say it’s a real big show. I was there for three days and was kept kinda busy. Ducati was launching the 2003 range and I have to say that they all look pretty good bikes, but then we already knew that Ducati knows how to build a pretty bike. While I was there I kinda cruised around all the sponsors checking them out, thanking them for their help and doing the autograph thing. Germany’s a pretty cool country, everything works and they make some great cars and the people are all very polite, so the show was pretty good and I enjoyed my little stay there.
Right now I’m north of Milan. I’ve got a buddy over here and we’ve hit the phones trying to find a pretty old specification engine for his little boy’s kart. He can’t find one back home and it’s Italian made, so we figured that we’d be onto a winner over here, right? Wrong, my Italian isn’t that great and hitting the Yellow Pages and the phones is kinda tricky. So far we haven’t had any success but we’ll get there I think.
I’ve been training a little bit but just now the weather’s kinda closed in. A little storm just blew in and doesn’t seem like it’s going to clear for a while and it’s hard to motivate yourself to go out running in the rain. This is making me think about the weekend and I don’t think Imola in the rain would be too much fun. I’d guess the trees would keep it pretty damp and the pavement there is a little unusual, but take it from me; the weather in Imola will be great for the weekend. My dad, Dave, flies into Rome on Wednesday to come to the last round. He’s never been to Europe before so while he’s here I guess he’ll have to check out a few of the incredible cities in Italy. Some of those places are just unbelievable and I think he’ll have a blast.
Also on Wednesday I’ll drive down the old A14 to Imola. It’ll be cool to go out racing again as it seems like it’s been a while since we were on track. It’s going to be a little weird for me, this being the last time I’m going to ride in a World Superbike event for a while against these guys and the last time I’ll be working with my crew. We’ve all gotten real close over the years and it’ll be hard knowing we are parting, so I guess I’m going to have to work even harder than usual, if that’s possible, and make sure that my side of the pit box has a real good weekend.
That’s all from me for this week, I’ll be here next week to let you know how things went for me so check back then. Be cool,
Ben
