He turned professional in ’92 and won the American Dirt Track Championship in ’93. But in the background, the glamorous image of road racing was calling Ben and he made the inevitable switch in ’95, taking to the asphalt immediately with a 2nd in the AMA Super Twins and 4th in the AMA Supersport 600 Championships in ‘96. A year later he scored a 2nd in the AMA Supersport 750, 12th in the AMA Supersport 600 and 16th in the AMA Superbike Championships.
The season of ‘98 was the year that it all paid off for Ben when he scooped the prestigious AMA Superbike Championship as “Rookie of the Year” aboard a Honda. Things were definitely going in the right direction!
