On 21st May, 1988 the 3rd Mobile Clinic was born.

It is unveiled at the "Dino e Enzo Ferrari" circuit of Imola, the day before Italian Motorcycles Grand Prix there.

In that day full of emotions, "godfathers" were chosen for the christening of the new clinic and to cut the tricolour tape: Giacomo Agostini, Kenny Roberts, Franco Uncini and Francesco Zerbi, who was at the time the Chairman of the Italian Motorcycling Federation.

Wayne Gardner However, the above may have been the "godfathers" of the clinic but the rider that would truly "christen" the new Clinic during this event was the 500cc world champion Wayne Gardner. He was the first patient to be treated in the new Mobile Clinic for his many fractures (five, all in his right foot), received a few days before in testing. On race day, Wayne Gardner finished 2nd and, crying with happiness and pain, donated the money prize that he had won to the Mobile Clinic.
Before leaving to provide assistance at the remaining races of the 1988 World Championship, the 3rd Mobile Clinic stops in Rome where Pope John Paul II visits it with his prelates and blesses it. Meanwhile, the 2nd Mobile Clinic, the one created in 1981, begins to be used at other motorcycling events and, in 1990, becomes the little travelling hospital of the Superbike Championship, directed by Dr. Massimo Corbascio.

The Superbike World Championship lives thanks to the passionate work of Maurizio and Paolo Flammini helped by Roberto and Renata Nosetto. (In 1997, a 4th Mobile Clinic is created. Used mainly in the Grand Prix, it would enable Clinic 3 to be used in the Superbike Championship). The 3rd Mobile Clinic is divided in 5 rooms with 3 beds. Its staff will perform an incredibly high number of treatments: 4000 every year.
