DOCWA members trip to the Island for Moto GP
Steve & AndrewAbout 10 Ducati Owners Club of Western Australia members headed east for the long trip to Phillip Island on the 14-16th October for this years Australian MotoGP.
"We were part of the Ducati Champions Club on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and enjoyed the hospitality organised by Ducati NFI Importers, thank you to Warren Lee and Carrie Birch for a well-organised event.
We were very disappointed to see Loris Capirossi crash out during Friday morning practice and very upset he could not be in the race on Sunday. He took a very heavy tumble into Doohan corner at high speed very early in the morning and was air lifted to hospital; we wish Loris a good recovery.
On a good note it was great to see Carlos Checa do so well, he became the first rider to lap the famous Phillip Island Grand Prix track at less than 1’.30”.00. Still he does not get pole position but it is a great result and he qualifies in 4th position. Even better Carlos finishes 3rd in the race just beating Marco Melandri right on the line for the podium, this is a great result for all us Ducati fans for sure.
We were fortunate to have Carlos Checa in our Ducati Champions Club before the race on Sunday where we met him and wished him a very happy birthday as it was on this day. His 3rd was a good birthday present for him in what has been a tough season. We also got to visit the pit area to look at the Ducati Desmosidici bikes close up which was very exciting for us.
On Sunday after the race we went to a special party and once again we caught up with Carlos who was very happy after his podium finish and because it was still his birthday we all partied hard with him and had much fun.
All of us from Ducati Owners Club of Western Australia had a fabulous weekend and the weather was perfect too for watching bike racing, we will be back next year for sure. Go Ducati!!!"
