WOMEN AND CLUBS: LOVE FOR LIFE!
I wake up with a flutter of excitement. Today I will ride my Monster with the Club! I stretch and pull on my leathers. When I start my Monster, the distinctive rumble of the Ducati engine makes my heart pound. I mount up and the cool morning air brings me fully awake. At our meeting place there are so many beautiful Ducatis ready for a good day of riding. There are all types of Ducatis here - 900 Supersports, 748 Superbikes, Monsters of all sizes, an F1 from the mid-80's, and many 999s. Today we go off into the canyons west of Denver to test ourselves on some twisty mountain roads. But first I have to take part to a little issue with the club "Goodmording! I'm Pamela Fortner, your President.." I've always been known as an enthusiastic person - an energetic person - a passionate person. When I consider my love for all things Italian and my love for the sport of riding motorcycles, the fact that I am the President of the local Ducati Club is natural. I was introduced to motorcycle riding only 4 years ago when my boyfriend had a Ducati 748 and I wanted to learn how to ride. Within 2 weeks a small Japanese bike was in my garage. I took to it immediately and motorcycling became my passion. Soon, it was to define my life. Less than a year later, my boyfriend proposed marriage and offered me a choice: a diamond ring or a Ducati Monster. I accepted his proposal, and a new yellow Ducati Monster. My passion for Ducati translated to my work and I began working for the Ducati dealership in Denver, Colorado. I enjoyed being surrounded by beautiful Italian motorcycles, but most of all, I enjoyed introducing people to Ducati. Keeping the Club alive can be a challenge. Not only have I scheduled and attended every ride for the last 18 months, but I've also become an expert on road construction, races, track schedules and event planning. I've learned a lot about computers, competition and how to communicate with the Ducati community. I have made lasting connections with area dealerships, well trained Ducati mechanics and talented riding instructors. Few days go by where I do not spend time on the club. It has all been a labour of love. From the 30 original members, the membership of the Rocky Mountain Ducati Riders Club has now grown to more than 80. There are young people, experienced riders and women who ride everything from Monster 620's to 999R's. No matter who the members are and what they ride, it is those wonderful Ducati motorcycles, that have brought us together and made the Club such a success.
