| 01-11-01 FOGGY TO BE SET FREE! |
Christmas will come early for Foggy tomorrow when the full-length plaster cast is removed from his leg. Carl has been in plaster up to his hip for more than four weeks after breaking his leg in two places in a private test for a one-off supermoto race in Belgium.
His Manchester specialist John Hodgkinson now believes the leg is sufficiently healed to reduce the cast to below the knee. That means Carl will be more mobile - as well as being able to flex his knee.
He said: "It's been driving me mad. I cannot wait to bend my knee. You've no idea how infuriating it's been. When I've had injuries in the rest of my career I've usually been bolted together. So this is the first time I've spent so long in a cast.
"I already know that the muscles in my leg have withered away and it's about time I was able to wash my foot - Michaela is struggling to sleep at night with the smell.
"The worrying thing, though, is that Mr. Hodgkinson said he was going to take the opportunity to manipulate my leg around a bit. He said the joint might feel a bit like rubber at first. I don't like the sound of that and thought I would have been put under anaesthetic."
Carl is set to celebrate his new-found freedom with a few days at his Spanish villa in the next couple of weeks. He has also taken the chance to do a series of interviews for BBC Worldwide on the future of World Superbikes.
