![]() The readers of eleven European magazines voted for the “2008 Bike of the Year”. Ducati dominated both the “Sportbike” and the “Enduro-Supermoto” categories
Ducati was the absolute winner in two of the most important and prestigious commercial categories. Among the “enduro-supermotos”, the Hypermotard repeated the extraordinary result of the past year and pushed ahead of prestigious bikes like the BMW R 1200 GS, the KTM 950 Supermoto, the Triumph Tiger and the Honda Varadero. The victory of the Ducati Hypermotard was overwhelming, winning first place in six of eleven countries (Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Italy), second in Poland and Holland and third in Switzerland. An equally significant victory to that of the supermoto category was the triumph in the king class of bikes. A repeat of last year, among the “sportbikes”, Ducati – and it couldn’t be otherwise – commanded the competition with the 1098, first in Germany, Switzerland and Italy, second in France, Spain, Portugal and Croatia and third in Holland. To complete the domination of this class was the beautiful and exclusive Desmosedici RR, which achieved another important victory by winning the preference of readers in five of eleven countries (France, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Romania) and coming in second in Germany, Poland and Italy. In summary, five of eleven countries voted for the “Ducati double-win” in the “sportbike” segment, where the competition was represented by Suzuki GSX-R 1000, MV Agusta, Honda CB 1000 R, Yamaha R1 and others. The “Reds of Borgo Panigale” were voted for the most by readers, even in the evaluations relating to brand where Ducati won: best sportbike brand, best stylistic approach, passion for the brand and champion in racing.
