Italian Post Office to dedicate a stamp to Ducati
On 31st May 2008, on the eve of the Italian GP at Mugello, the Italian Post Office has issued a Ducati-dedicated stamp belonging to its ‘motorcycle’ series. While Ducati is a small company (selling just 40 thousand bikes a year) compared to the Japanese giants, it personifies ‘Italian style’, courage, competitiveness and sheer brilliance.
This stamp, designed jointly with the Italian Post Office, reinforces those feelings of pride even further and puts the seal on Ducati’s fantastic, historic MotoGP victory – a perfect example of Italian-made flair and technology.

Three and a half million copies of the stamp, with a face value of € 0.60, will be printed by the Officina Carte Valori dell’Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato S.p.A. The foreground shows a motorcyclist seated on a Ducati Desmosedici GP7, winner of the 2007 MotoGP World Championship; the black-and-white chequered background, instead, recalls the traditional end-of-race flag. The Ducati logo is printed in the top right corner.

For all stamp-collecting enthusiasts the issue will be marked by the sale of the first cover note and a letter signed by Gabriele Del Torchio, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. Finally, on 31st May, the Philatelic Desk of the Bologna branch and the Post Office of Barberino di Mugello (FI) has used the special cancellation stamp made by the Italian Post Philately Department.

The stamp and philately products will be sold at Italian Post Offices, all national philately desks, “Spazio Filatelia” shops in Rome, Milan, Venice, Naples and through the website www.poste.it.
