Ducati came away with a haul of prizes
The Bologna factory won the overall competition with the Streetfighter and took first prize in three different categories with the 1198, the Hypermotard and the Streetfighter.

More than 40,000 readers of the Italian top magazine Motociclismo have voted for their “Bike of the year 2009”, choosing from 287 different models in 12 categories (50 cc, Cruiser, Naked, Road Enduro, Enduro, Supermotard, Sport Tourer, Sports, Grand Touring and three scooter classes).

The overall winner was the new jewel in the Bologna manufacturer’s crown: the Streetfighter, with its perfect blend of a superbike soul and the raw attraction and pared down elegance of a naked bike. Apart from claiming the top prize, the Ducati Streetfighter also won in the naked category, with the third prize going to the Monster, an iconic bike for this market segment, proving the extent of public interest in this kind of bike.

As usual in this vote, much attention focussed on the “sports” category, which has always reflected the public’s changing tastes. In previous years Ducati had already found favour among the readers and this year was no different. The Bologna-made bikes came away with a haul of prizes including first place in this coveted category, which also saw the new 1198 prevail over all the hyper-sports bikes in the list, followed in third place by the Desmosedici RR, confirming Ducati’s dominance of this category too, as ever the flagship of two-wheeled Italian pride.

Completing Ducati’s success was another major, significant award in the form of the “Supermotard” category win, once more claimed by the stunning and original Hypermotard.

The awards ceremony took place on the evening of Tuesday 5 May, when the new Edisport publishing group headquarters was unveiled in Via Don Sturzo, Pero, where a new, more functional building replaces the publisher’s original home in Milan’s Via Gradisca. The ceremony was attended by the management of Edisport, the publisher of Motociclismo magazine, Mr. Guidalberto Guidi (Chairman of Confindustria ANCMA), all the manufacturers in the competition and Noriyuki Haga, the factory Ducati Xerox Team star, who took the ceremony by storm when he made a surprise entrance riding a Streetfighter onto the awards stage.
