DUCATI ISLAND MILLER RECAP

Ducati again defined the premiere off-track experience at the U.S. round of the World Superbike Championship at Miller Motorsports Park. Ducatisiti and all enthusiasts alike were treated to non-stop action all weekend on Ducati Island. Fashion shows, educational seminars, technical displays, and a silent auction benefiting the International Rett Syndrome Foundation were some of the main attractions that kept the Island hopping. As always, Ducati owners enjoyed Ducati-only parking, revered Ducati Hospitality and an exclusive position at the front of the pack during race day’s fan lap.

Although Ducati Xerox rider and championship point’s leader Nori Haga had a tough weekend taking a hard spill during practice coming out of the Tooele turn right in front of Ducati Island, he salvaged important points and maintains a dominant lead in the series. Repeating his strong performance of last year’s Miller round, teammate Michel Fabrizio finished the weekend on top of the podium twice and is only 11 points shy of second place in the Championship.

Between races, Ducati Island was the hub of activity as Island goers got up close and personal with Larry Pegram and Michel Fabrizio during special autograph signings and Ducati owners refreshed and escaped the rising temperatures under the shade of the hospitality tent.

The International Rett Syndrome Foundation silent auction was a huge success. Raising money for this important cause, the auction featured official 2001 Ducati L&M WSBK Team Gear donated and autographed by rider Ben Bostrom, a Burton/Ducati snowboard autographed by current Ducati WSBK riders Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio, Ducati Year Books autographed by former Ducati WSBK rider Troy Bayliss, and much more.

The Ducati Island Showdown was also back in action at Miller as everyone who rode their Ducati to the track was a potential winner. The judges scoured the Ducati-only parking all weekend and selected 20 bikes for the final showdown on Sunday. The competition was fierce, but in the end winners had to be chosen and those lucky Ducati owners went home with some very special prizes. You can check out the winners in the photo album below.
