The Ducati Lenovo Team wrapped up the opening day of action at Austin's Circuit of The Americas in a positive fashion. Marc Márquez topped the Practice timesheets, while Francesco Bagnaia finished the session in eighth position.
Fourth in Free Practice despite a crash at turn ten, Márquez made the most of his time attack in the closing stages of the afternoon session to return to the top, making the difference in sectors two and three. Bagnaia, eleventh in the morning, led the way during the first half of Practice before securing a place inside the top ten towards the end.
The Ducati Lenovo Team will resume action tomorrow at 10:10 local time (GMT -5) for Free Practice 2, followed by Q2 at 11:15. The third Sprint of the season will get underway at 15:00 over a distance of seven laps.
Marc Márquez (#93 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 1st
“The crash is my fault: turn ten is one of my favourites, but unfortunately I didn't take into account that from one year to the next new bumps can appear. I managed to save it in some way, but I still end up hitting the barriers at high speed. I didn't suffer any injury but I'm in pain a bit all over the body, especially in the back of the neck. The feeling with the bike in the afternoon was quite good, but I was a bit more careful after the crash. Colder temperatures are expected tomorrow, which will likely change the behaviour of the bike and the track: we'll need to come up with the best strategy.”
Francesco Bagnaia (#63 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 8th
“I couldn't push as hard as I wanted in the final time attack, but we still finished in the top ten and this is a good result. The day was quite a positive one: I was able to be fast and consistent with used tyres, which is not a given here as the track is really demanding on the body. We need to make a step forward ahead of tomorrow but we're already in a good place. I felt good with both the soft tire and the medium one. The bike is working well and we're working in the right direction to be able to fight for the top positions.”
