Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 16 December 2025 – Once again, the talent of University of Bologna students has shone on the track, as the UniBo Motorsport Team secured the top spot on the MotoStudent International Competition podium for the third consecutive time.
This year’s biennial competition featured 42 teams from universities around the world. The 2025 edition, held from 15–19 October at MotorLand Aragón, highlighted Vega#88, the electric prototype developed by the UniBo Motorsport Team in collaboration with Ducati engineers and piloted by test rider Alessio Aldrovandi.
This victory, the result of two years of work, was celebrated on the morning of 15 December during a meeting hosted by Fisica in Moto Powered by Lenovo, the Ducati Foundation laboratory created to introduce young students to applied physics. Students recounted the key stages of the project alongside Claudio Domenicali, Ducati CEO and President of Fondazione Ducati; Giovanni Molari, Magnificent Rector of the University of Bologna; Nicolò Cavina, Faculty Advisor of the UniBo Motorsport Team; and Simone Di Piazza, Ducati Innovation and R&D Services Manager.
“We are proud of the UniBo Motorsport Team’s third consecutive victory and of the collaborative relationship we have built over time with the University of Bologna. It is a bond we deeply believe in, and nearly twenty years after the founding of the Ducati Foundation, it has led to many young students from the academic world joining Ducati, representing a concrete investment in preparing the colleagues of tomorrow,” said Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati and President of Fondazione Ducati. “The results of the MotoStudent project demonstrate the value of this shared journey, fully embodying Plutarch’s famous quote that students are not vessels to be filled, but fires to be lit.”
“This success is the result of a path of educational, technological, and sporting excellence, made possible by the close partnership between Alma Mater Studiorum and Ducati: a virtuous example of integration between academia and industry, which fosters innovation, expertise, and tangible results,” said Giovanni Molari, Magnificent Rector of the University of Bologna. “MotoStudent is much more than a competition; it is an extraordinary laboratory where students acquire advanced skills in design, project management, testing, validation, and communication. For this reason, the achievements of the UniBo Motorsport Team are a source of pride for our entire community and a clear signal of the quality of Alma Mater Studiorum’s educational programs.”
UniBo Motorsport, supported by Fondazione Ducati, is one of the training projects promoted by the Borgo Panigale motorcycle manufacturer. This third victory confirms the effectiveness of a collaborative model that allows students to experience the dynamics, processes, and responsibilities typical of a corporate environment.
This approach reflects the mission of the Ducati Foundation, active since 2006 in promoting excellent educational programs and enhancing the region’s cultural heritage. Among its initiatives is Fisica in Moto Powered by Lenovo, a laboratory welcoming thousands of high school students each year, offering hands-on learning on the principles of physics applied to the world of two-wheels.
The Foundation also runs DESI – Dual Education System Italy, a two-year program combining school-based education with practical in-company training, aimed at strengthening students’ technical skills and supporting the inclusion of specialized professionals in the Motor Valley industrial network.
Ducati is also an active member of MUNER – Motor Valley University of Emilia-Romagna, which brings together regional universities and major Motor Valley entities to offer international engineering programs in English.
In this context, training at Ducati is a responsibility grounded in applied development experiences, giving students exposure to real-world challenges and representing an investment in skills development and the continuity of Motor Valley’s technical and engineering culture.
