HomeOxford Products Racing Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell managed to snatch second across the finish line at Snetterton this afternoon to split the McAMS Yamaha duo of Tarran Mackenzie and Jason O’Halloran.
Another poor start saw Bridewell initially down the pack in 15th, but by mid-distance he climbed all the way up to third behind O’Halloran and Mackenzie, after Glenn Irwin (Honda Racing) crashed out whilst leading lead.
Although he was closing down the Yamaha racers in the final laps, it looked like Bridewell had run out laps to make a move, but his determination saw him make a great drive to the finish line to jump a position and claim second place with a 0.026s advantage over O’Halloran, with Mackenzie taking the win.
The race was a mixed one for the VisionTrack Ducati team. Christian Iddon’s run of bad luck continued after he crashed out unhurt at Oggies on the opening lap. But Josh Brookes’ form is certainly returning with the defending champ back at the fast end, battling with FS-3 Kawasaki’s Lee Jackson and going on to match his best performance of the season at Donington with another fourth place.
Bridewell lines up for Race 2 tomorrow from pole. He is joined on the front row by Brookes who will start from second, with Iddon starting from middle of Row 6 in 17th.
Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Products Racing Ducati #46) – 2nd
“Good race all in all. I’m really happy. The Oxford Products Racing Ducati was good, really good. I was moaning all weekend as I normally do to be honest but I said to Wilf I’ve genuinely not rode around anyone all weekend. I like to just be on my own. I’ve been struggling to stop into Turn 1, been struggling in areas but it turns out I was just mega fast into corners! I want to dedicate this second to my uncle that we lost last week, so that’s for my Uncle Gordon.”
