Goulburn serves up challenging weekend for Desmosport Ducati

One Raceway turned from hero to villain for Broc Pearson and the Desmosport Ducati team after recording results of seventh and eighth despite achieving consistently fast lap times through most sessions at the penultimate round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) held over October 3-5. On race day, qualifying proved vital as did the opening laps where track position ultimately determined race results at a circuit that is notoriously difficult to execute passes. Starting from the second row in fifth position, Pearson took seventh in the opening race while in the red flag interrupted second event the result was similar, finishing in eighth despite lap times rivalling those in the podium positions in both races. Luca Durning completed a positive weekend in Next Gen Supersport, taking his Panigale V2 to 11-12 results outright and second in Next Gen Supersport, improving his lap time in every session.

Team Owner, Ben Henry: "One Raceway was somewhere where we thought we might end up pretty handy - we weren't. We had half decent lap speed but we couldn't get track position and that's really how it unfolded. We can't blame anyone but ourselves, we didn't qualify where we needed to qualify. Again, we were effectively equal to second on the grid but we were fifth. That's the joys of racing, sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't and unfortunately, you are only as good as where you finish. Seventh and eighth is where we were - I don't like it, but we just have to accept it, get on with it, get better and move on. We have a plan that will see us ride a few times between now and when we get to Adelaide, where we'll be looking to prove our true potential."

Broc Pearson: "Leading up to today we had a lot of speed and we were making progress with the bike - but today we went in the wrong direction for the first race. I lost my head a little bit and then in the second race I didn't execute the start well enough or have good track position, which was vital. Seventh and eighth was not what I expected, we've been good at executing on Sunday this year - and I just didn't today. There were some of my own mistakes where I could have improved especially in the opening laps, it was so difficult to pass and not many people made passes - it's just how it goes sometimes. This has fired me up for The Bend to finish the year strong, there was a lot of wasted potential this weekend, we just have to keep working."

Broc Pearson and the Desmosport Ducati team will now regroup and fire up for the eighth and final round of the season to be held at The Bend over November 7-9.
