Ducati Official Club Rider Spotlight 2

Ducati Official Club Rider Spotlight: Chris Marer

As we celebrate 25 years of the Ducati Official Clubs around the world, we’re spotlighting some of the incredible individuals who helped build the community we know and love today. One such person is Chris Marer, a founding member of the Ducati Official Club New Zealand (DOCNZ) and lifelong Ducatista whose story is as inspiring as it is deeply rooted in the red world of Ducati.

From a Window to a Way of Life

Chris’s journey began in Nelson, New Zealand, where a childhood fascination with motorcycles took hold. “I wasn’t born there,” he shares, “but I consider Nelson my hometown.” Peering through the window of the local motorcycle shop, young Chris was captivated by the machines and eventually landed an after-school job there. That’s where he first laid eyes on a Ducati.

“That was it, I was hooked.”

After a few years riding other brands, Chris finally realised his dream and bought his very first Ducati: a brand new 750F1. He rode it everywhere, even raced it extensively from endurance to sprint series, and decades later, it still has a place in his garage (albeit with a slightly easier life now).

Building a Club, Building a Legacy

In the early 2000s, Chris and a few like-minded friends took a bold step, they founded the DOCNZ. Chris served on the committee for many years and even took on the role of President.

“Being part of the club has been an amazing experience,” he says. “From participating in the many fantastic events to meeting so many cool and amazing people, many of whom have become lifelong friends.”

“Being part of the DOC has opened doors money simply can't buy,” says Chris, after reminiscing on representing the DOCNZ at the World Ducati Week Presidents meeting in Misano and an unforgettable Ferrari test drive at the iconic Maranello circuit.

Now based on the Kapiti Coast, Chris has fully embraced life after work, dedicating more time to exploring New Zealand’s beautiful roads and tracks on his growing collection of Ducatis. From track day beasts and touring machines to vintage rides and even an Adventure bike, he admits: “To say I am a passionate Ducatista is an understatement.”

Chris’s story is just one among thousands of passionate Ducatisti who make our global family so special. From first rides to lifelong friendships, the Ducati Official Clubs have been a place where passion thrives, and memories are made.
