Engine

Total control and constant traction.

The Desmo450 EDS is built around its beating heart: an engine developed for enduro riding, designed to ensure consistent traction, control, and smoothness across all conditions. A natural evolution of the Desmo450 MX engine, it retains Ducati racing DNA and amplifies it to tackle any terrain, long distances, and extreme sections with greater precision and ease of handling.
Smooth enduro-oriented power delivery

Power delivery on the Desmo450 EDS is smooth, progressive, and always manageable, even in the most extreme conditions. This is made possible by new intake and exhaust camshafts with dedicated lift profiles, a revised piston with a reduced compression ratio, and a crankshaft with increased inertia, delivering a gentler, more linear response, especially during throttle-opening transitions.
The throttle body diameter has also been reduced from 44 mm to 42 mm: a precise technical choice that smooths the torque curve, eliminates the step between low and mid-range revs, and significantly improves the connection between the throttle grip and the rear wheel.

The benefits of Desmo

The Desmo450 EDS engine is a 449.6 cc four-stroke single-cylinder with desmodromic DOHC four-valve timing. Chain-driven, it is equipped with lightweight magnesium covers for the alternator, cylinder head, and clutch. When the Racing Kit accessory package is installed, the full potential of the Desmo450 engine can be exploited, allowing it to reach up to 11,000 rpm and deliver extended over-rev. The absence of traditional valve springs enables more precise valve control and reduced friction, maximizing efficiency and racing performance.

Desmodromic valve actuation

The desmodromic system allows for higher valve acceleration than conventional systems. The result is a broader, fuller, and more consistent torque curve across the entire power delivery range.

Dual Overhead Camshaft

The Desmo450 adopts a DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshaft) configuration with four valves, developed to optimize airflow and combustion efficiency. A technical solution that guarantees immediate throttle response and smooth, effective power delivery at all engine speeds. Fueling is managed by a Ø 42 mm Mikuni throttle body, designed to provide a direct and precise connection between throttle and engine.

Efficiency and reliability

On the Desmo450 EDS, bore and stroke measurements of 96 x 62.1 mm have been defined to achieve optimal valve sizing.
The titanium intake valves measure 40 mm in diameter, while the 33 mm exhaust valves are made of steel with hollow stems filled with sodium to improve heat exchange.
The hydraulically actuated cam chain tensioner ensures more precise and consistent tension over time than a conventional mechanical solution, improving reliability and system efficiency.

Cam chain with hydraulic tensioner

The cam chain tensioner is hydraulically actuated, providing more precise and consistent tension over time than a conventional mechanical solution, for greater reliability and overall efficiency.

Enduro-oriented six-speed gearbox

The Desmo450 EDS introduces a six-speed gearbox developed specifically for enduro riding. Compared to the Desmo450 MX, the first five gears are shorter overall to meet the demands of more technical and demanding riding. The more elastic third gear makes the most of engine torque, reducing the need for frequent shifting.
The longer sixth gear is designed for faster, smoother transfers, allowing the engine to run at lower rpm and reducing stress on bike components and rider alike.

Extended service intervals and predictive maintenance

Drawing on experience gained by Ducati Corse in Superbike and MotoGP, Ducati has developed an algorithm calibrated specifically for competitive enduro riding, capable of calculating engine stress levels in real time based on operating parameters and usage conditions.
The system also considers terrain type and dynamically updates maintenance deadlines via the Ducati X-Link App. Service intervals adapt to riding style and usage intensity: shorter for professional and racing use, longer for amateur riding, overcoming traditional fixed maintenance schedules.
Maintenance includes two service levels: MID Service (piston replacement and valve clearance check, 90–120 hours) and FULL Service (complete engine overhaul, approximately 180–240 hours), always based on real usage conditions.

*Available only in countries where the service is active and not homologated for road usage.

Vehicle

Desmo450 EDS:
essential by nature.

The Desmo450 EDS is designed to turn every ride into an opportunity to transcend everyday routine. Lightweight, agile, and intuitive, it is engineered to tackle any terrain naturally, for precise and immediate handling even in the most technical sections.

Chassis

Precision and control through innovative solutions.

Every element of the Desmo450 EDS chassis has been developed to ensure precision, control, and responsiveness, through targeted design and careful selection of materials and top-tier technical partners.
Enduro-specific Showa suspension

For the first time in the modern era, Showa has focused its development exclusively on suspension dedicated to enduro riding, with specific settings designed to deliver maximum control, traction and sensitivity on the most technical terrain.
At the front, the 49 mm fork shares its base architecture with the Desmo450 MX version and offers 310 mm of total travel. The spring rate is reduced from 5.0 N/mm to 4.6 N/mm, optimizing low-speed compression damping.
At the rear, the shock retains the same architecture as the 450 MX but with a softer spring (from 46 N/mm to 44 N/mm) and a new 1.5 mm bypass hole in the 50 mm piston, designed to improve initial response, traction, and control.

O-ring chain

The Desmo450 EDS is equipped with an RK MXU O-ring chain, the same used by the Ducati Factory Team competing in MXGP. This choice increases component durability.

Brembo and Galfer braking system

The braking system of the Desmo450 EDS is the result of collaboration with historic Ducati partner, Brembo. Brembo calipers and master cylinders work in combination with 260 mm front and 240 mm rear Galfer discs, chosen for their lightness, precision, and resistance even in the most extreme conditions.

Metzler 6 Days Extreme

The Desmo450 EDS features new 21” front and 18” rear wheels fitted with ready-to-race Metzeler 6 Days Extreme tires with standard compound. A configuration developed to ensure the perfect balance of stability, traction, and riding precision on all types of terrain.

Ergonomics

Perfect balance.

Low weight and maximum efficiency thanks to the aluminum perimeter frame made up of just 11 elements, developed to ensure the perfect balance of lightness, stiffness, and control.
Low weight for maximum control

Lightweight aluminum perimeter frame construction allows precise calibration of stiffness and strength, resulting in a racing weight of 243.6 lbs. (110.5 kg) with titanium Akrapovič exhaust.

Strong and lightweight aluminium frame

The Desmo450 EDS features an aluminum perimeter frame made up of just 11 pieces, a design solution that minimizes welds, reduces weight, and achieves stiffness levels optimized for enduro riding. Perfectly integrated within the frame is the enlarged 2.2-gallon (8.5-liter) fuel tank, ensuring the ideal balance of capacity and range.

The “weld-less” approach used for the Desmo450 EDS minimizes the number of frame components to reduce welds and potential weak points and enhance overall reliability.

Textures designed to maximise grip

Everything on the Desmo450 EDS is designed to help the rider perform at their best. Clean shapes and high‑grip textures improve contact with the bike, offering support during acceleration and maximum freedom of movement, for complete control, precision, and responsiveness on any terrain.
