Desmosedici GP 03

Designed by Filippo Preziosi, with its liquid-cooled four-stroke engine and desmodromic timing, the GP03 was put in the hands of Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss, who took Ducati to an amazing runner-up slot in the 2003 Constructors’ championship that year.

Following a change in regulations that gave rise to the new MotoGP class in 2002, Ducati announced its return to the top category of the World Championship after an absence of thirty years.

Designed by Filippo Preziosi and entrusted to Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss, the Desmosedici GP03 proved to be an extremely powerful motorcycle thanks to its four-stroke engine with liquid cooling and desmodromic timing.

Immediately competitive, Capirossi qualified on the front row and took his # 65 bike to the podium at the first race of the season, which took place in Japan on the Suzuka circuit.

At the sixth race of the season, on the Catalunya circuit, Loris took the chequered flag in front of the rest of the field, notching up the first victory for the Desmosedici.

Thanks also to teammate Bayliss, Ducati achieved an honourable second place in the Constructors' standings in its first season in MotoGP.
