DesmoSport DucatiDesmosport Ducati and Broc Pearson have turned it on for their home fans at Morgan Park Raceway, fighting through to reach the podium in both races and finish second overall at the fourth round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK). Several technical problems during qualifying meant the best Pearson could manage was a second row start in fourth, but the Gold Coast local was able to battle his way forward to claim second in the opening race. After some rapid fine tuning, Pearson took an improved DesmoSport Ducati Panigale V4 R into race two and was able to fight through the pack to secure third place and leap several places in the points standings to now sit fourth in the championship. Luca Durning again campaigned the stunning Panigale V2 as the sole competitor in Next Gen SuperSport, with Desmosport Ducati the only team in the paddock to take the initiative and prepare a machine in this exciting new class.

Team Owner, Ben Henry: "Today unfolded pretty well, there was some good fortune involved but we've also put in the hard work as a team. It can be difficult to pass at Morgan Park on a Superbike and I knew not being on the front row was going to be a problem. We had a faulty electrical component in Q1 and a broken exhaust header in Q2 - both unusual parts to fail and while they weren't serious problems, it was enough to break our momentum. Starts are also frustrating us at the moment, Broc's been vulnerable off the line the last couple of rounds and the problem is in the launch control programming of the MoTeC ECU. We knew there could be teething issues developing this new ECU setup, so we have to be patient for a software update but I'm sure the fix will happen before the next round. At some stage in the near future, every team will have to run the MoTeC ECU and I feel like a little bit of pain during this learning process will pay off down the track. There were so many positives this weekend though, team morale is on a high and I feel like Broc is riding the best I have ever seen him ride. Although we were down on outright lap speed this weekend, two podiums here is still a great result and I'm really looking forward to the next round."
Broc Pearson: "We expected a good result here at Morgan Park and to come away with back-to-back podiums - our first of the year - as well as second overall, we've got a lot to be happy about as a team. We were missing a little bit of outright pace this weekend but we fought very hard in the races to move forward, our bike was very physically demanding which on a track like Morgan Park, isn’t ideal so we will put some attention into that area moving forward. There were a few frustrations during qualifying which spilled into the races, but the reality is we are developing an ECU setup from scratch and that requires a bit of patience. I was still happy to move forward and make good passes when I needed, I maximised the strengths of the V4R in certain areas which was a key part of it. Now we head back to Queensland Raceway, another 'home' track for myself and the Desmosport team. The support we have from all the passionate Queensland Superbike fans is amazing and I can't wait to put on a show with the V8 Supercars in six weeks."
The main focus over the six week break at Cube Performance Centre will be developing the launch control system for the MoteC ECU. Desmosport Ducati returns to Queensland Raceway on August 8-10 for round five of the ASBK championship, which will be held alongside the V8 Supercar championship.
