Josh Waters and Onyabike KW Civil McMartin Racing with K-Tech ASBK Champions for 2025.

Josh Waters has secured his record breaking fifth ASBK Championship, wrapping up the title on the Onyabike KW Civil McMartin Racing with K-Tech Ducati V4R at the final round of the ASBK Championship held over the weekend of 7-9 November.

Championship rival Mike Jones had to secure the point awarded for Pole position to keep the title fight alive going into Sunday’s two races, however a stunning performance from Cru Halliday on the McMartin Racing prepared Stop and Seal Ducati V4R to claim Pole for Saturday’s races denied Jones that opportunity and Waters celebrated an unprecedented fifth title on Saturday afternoon after qualifying.

Prior to qualifying the Onyabike KW Civil McMartin Racing with K-Tech Team had worked hard over the Friday practice sessions fine tuning the setup, Josh responding by being the fastest rider over the first two sessions ending the day third fastest, Halliday also showing blistering pace on Friday on his McMartin Racing prepared Ducati V4R finishing second before Josh was back to the top of the timesheets on Saturday in the final practice sessions with Cru in second.

Extremely windy conditions did not stop the pace lowering again in qualifying, Josh improving by half a second over practice but had to settle for fifth on the grid along with being crowned ASBK Champion for 2025.

Race one got underway in much less windy conditions and Waters got one of his typical lightning launches off the second row and rocketed past the riders in front to lead into turn one. Halliday was able to stay in touch for a few laps until Josh was able to make a break and manage a comfortable gap to record his tenth race win of the season.

Race two, the final race of the year, was held in slightly more windy conditions than race one. Josh didn’t get as good a launch as earlier in the day; however, it didn’t stop him blasting through and leading the field into turn one, Halliday on his McMartin Racing prepared V4R right behind. Unfortunately, a red flag stoppage due to oil on the track only a few laps in meant the race was re-started over a nine-lap distance.

In the restart Josh got his worse start of the weekend and was fifth into turn one, immediately loosing another position before the field arrived at turn two. After a few hectic corners to start Josh gained back one place when Glenn Allerton ran wide at Ducati corner and got settled into his race rhythm getting back past Troy Herfoss on lap two. Josh utilised the straight-line speed of the Onyabike KW Civil McMartin Racing with K-Tech Duacti V4R to blast past fast starting Max Stauffer at the start of lap three before doing the same to Cam Dunker on the next lap. Now up into third Josh was able to reduce the gap to the race leader back to about one second for a few laps before running out of laps and crossing the line in third.

Josh and the Onyabike KW Civil McMartin Racing with K-Tech Ducati V4R finished equal on points with Jones for the final round of the year, Jones awarded the round win on a countback.

After six consecutive round wins, ten individual race wins, fifteen podiums and the 2025 ASBK Championship the Onyabike KW Civil McMartin Racing with K-Tech Team now set their sights on 2026 and a hat trick of titles.

“What a year it's been. I'm so happy to win the 2025 Australian Superbike Championship” commented Five Time ASBK Champion, Josh Waters. “But I couldn't have done it without my amazing team and sponsors. The weekend started off great, I was fast from the start but when it came to time for qualifying, I knew then this is when we had a distinct possibility that we could become champions. It was such a relief when I rolled back into the pits and saw the team celebrating. Race day I was happy with how I went, 1-3. Race two was going really good but unfortunately was restarted and I got my worst start of the year but was happy to fight back to take third. Again, a huge thank you to my team, our sponsors and supporters”.

“The year couldn't have finished off much better, with Josh getting a win and 3rd” said Team Owner Craig McMartin. “Josh and the team have worked so well this year and the atmosphere in the garage is so much fun. Cannot thank the team and our sponsors enough for their support this season and looking forward to next season. As always, we could not do what we do without the continued support of all our sponsors including Onyabikeadvantures, KW Civil, K-Tech, Ducati and Pirelli tyres and we look forward to trying to make it three in a row in 2026”.
