Wayne Maxwell and Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech secure race, round, and championship podiums in ASBK swan song.

Wayne Maxwell signed off his stellar ASBK career with a podium in both races along with second overall for the championship aboard his Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech Ducati V4R over the weekend of 25-27 November.

Maxwell and teammate Josh Waters both managed solid improvements over Friday’s practice sessions despite investigating multiple setup options for Sunday’s two races.

In timed practice both Wayne and Josh secured direct entry to the all-important Q2 session with minimal laps.

Unfortunately, a minor electrical issue prevented Wayne extracting the most out of his Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech Ducati V4R in the short Q2 session while Josh, now feeling more comfortable with some revised settings, didn’t manage to get a perfectly clear run despite being able to string his fastest sector times on a single lap. Josh ended up qualifying in sixth with Wayne back on the fourth row in a high-quality field that included MotoGP star Jack Miller.

Race one was only a few laps in when it was red flagged due to an incident at turn one, a restart over a slightly shortened race distance of ten laps saw Josh and Wayne complete the first lap in sixth and seventh position. Wayne had charged forward from his fourth row starting position to be with Josh who was able to pass Cru Halliday on lap two with Wayne hot on his tail, by the end of lap three the Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech duo had also got the better of championship leader Mike Jones to sit fourth and fifth. Wayne then outbroke Josh at turn seventeen lap four to move up a position, Josh returned the favor at turn one with Wayne immediately back in front the following corner. Wayne moved the Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech Ducati into second, getting past long-time rival Troy Herfoss on lap five and hit the lead on the lap following getting past fast starting local, Arthur Sissis. Wayne led as Josh maintained fourth all the way to lap nine when Herfoss went back into the lead, with tyre grip holding on both riders pushed as hard as they could for the final lap, Wayne coming up just .328 short of victory at the line with Josh less than a second behind on his Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech Ducati in fourth.

Race two was another, if not more frantic, affair. Unfortunately Josh was taken out on lap one at turn one by German Marcel Shroetter ending his race and season early. Meanwhile, Wayne and his Boost Mobile Racing with K-Tech Ducati were in the thick of the action in a huge group of eight superbikes nose to tail for the first four laps. By lap four Wayne had carved his way forward to third and on lap six got the better of both Jones and Jack Miller to take the lead in his final ASBK race. A series of fast laps failed to shake Jones who had wrapped up the title for 2022 in the previous race, Jones back in front on lap nine. Wayne then was in the middle of a titanic struggle with Herfoss and Glenn Allerton for second position when they both crashed out on the final lap, just as young Senna Agius on the Penrite Honda pushed his way past to take second. Wayne came across the line in third position after eleven incredible laps, scoring enough points to secure second in the championship, continuing his unprecedented run of top three finishes in the ASBK title.

In his illustrious ASBK career, Wayne has won the Championship three times, finished second five times and third three times
