The Ducati Lenovo Team tackled the twelfth Sprint of the season at Silverstone. Marc Márquez finished the race in ninth position, scoring one point, while Francesco Bagnaia was seventeenth at the flag.
Márquez – sixth on the starting grid – moved up two positions during the opening lap. After spending the first half of the Sprint in fourth place, Marc started to experience a significant drop in rear grip, losing ground and ultimately finishing ninth. From row six, Bagnaia made his way up to twelfth in the opening stages but was unable to maintain a competitive pace as the race progressed.
The Ducati Lenovo Team will resume proceedings tomorrow at 9:40 local time (GMT +1) for the warm up, which will be followed by the 20-lap Grand Prix of Great Britain, getting underway at 13:00.
Marc Márquez (#93 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 9th
“I'm obviously a bit frustrated as we're normally competitive in the Sprint and I was feeling good today. We need to analyse the data to understand exactly what happened, but all I know is that I felt a significant drop in grip at the rear. This caught us by surprise because during Practice – with the soft tire – we were able to complete at least ten laps with a good pace. From the halfway point onwards, instead, the new goal was simply to finish the race. We managed to do so, but we need to work ahead of tomorrow if we want to aim for a good result.”
Francesco Bagnaia (#63 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 17th
“I wasn't expecting this type of challenge. Unfortunately, this weekend we're struggling with grip: since I can't get the bike stopped the way I'd like, I need to force a lot mid-corner with the throttle in order to make it turn, and this leads to really high tire wear. I made a good start, going from sixteenth to twelfth, but I was struggling and there were a lot of riders who were faster than me. In the closing stages, I was having a hard time even dropping the knee. We need to look for a different approach in order to really understand why we lack so much rear grip.”
