The Ducati Lenovo Team wrapped up the seventh Sprint of the season with a top-five finish claimed by the returning Marc Márquez, who put together an excellent performance at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. Francesco Bagnaia was seventh at the flag after being hampered by a poor start.
Márquez nailed the start from fourth place on the grid as he entered the San Donato corner in first place. Marc then managed his race carefully as he held on to fifth position all the way to the chequered flag. Bagnaia, from sixth on the grid, dropped down to eleventh during the opening lap. Pecco then fought his way back to seventh place — a position he secured on the final lap — thanks to a solid pace.
The Ducati Lenovo Team will be back in action tomorrow morning at 9:40 local time (GMT +2) for the warm up, which will be followed by the seventh race of the season, to be contested over a 23-lap distance from 14:00.
Marc Márquez (#93 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 5th
“We had a good start, but at the beginning I wasn't able to ride the way I wanted. Then I lapped quite well, even though the first three to four riders were out of reach in terms of pace. The goal was to continue our recovery by completing as many laps as possible, and we also managed to score a good result in the process. I'm happy: I lack a bit of energy compared to yesterday, but the riding position has surely improved. My pace was quite consistent even though I had to hit the brakes earlier than usual. This is a demanding track and I will likely suffer a bit more tomorrow, but the strategy remains the same.”
Francesco Bagnaia (#63 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 7th
“It was a difficult day: I made a mistake at turn ten in qualifying, and I believe that I would have been on the front row otherwise. Unfortunately, unlike yesterday, I haven't been able to get a good launch since this morning, and the same happened in the Sprint. I lost several places at the start and then I tried to recover as much as possible. We have the pace to do well, and that was clear in the closing stages, but we need to keep working to fix our issues at the start, also due to how much more difficult overtaking has become compared to the past.”
