HomeChristian Iddon was forced out of today's action, in a second consecutive round, after contact from Andrew Irwin in Race 2 around Donington Park’s National Circuit.
The VisionTrack Ducati rider had started his race from seventh, but by lap four he was into second place after passing SYNETIQ BMW Motorrad rider Irwin. The riders swapped positions again but on lap six Iddon passed Irwin into Redgate, only for Irwin to cut back with contact forcing Iddon to crash out the race, bringing back memories of a similar clash between Irwin and Josh Brookes from 2020.
Irwin’s teammate Danny Buchan crashed out in the later stages of the race, bringing out the safety car and extending the 26-lap race by a couple of laps, with Tarran Mackenzie going on to take the win just 0.066s ahead of RICH Energy OMG Racing BMW 's Bradley Ray.
Oxford Products Racing Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell repeated yesterday’s performance to bring his Panigale home in fifth, with VisionTrack Ducati’s Brookes completing the race in tenth.
Christian Iddon (VisionTrack Ducati #21) - DNF
“It’s absolutely ridiculous. A two second penalty, that needs reviewing after the race because he [Andrew Irwin] is still in the race and I’m not. I don’t mind hard racing, but you can’t hit someone at maximum lean, you just can’t do it, you know the outcome. He came round the corner, I passed him on the way in, I didn’t run wide I was absolutely bang on line, he continued to accelerate on the inside of me. There’s only one outcome of that. There’s nothing I can do differently. There was no space at all, if there was space, he wouldn’t have had to run clean into the side of me. It’s not my place to give penalties but I’m out the race after running second.”
