Bridewell digs deep for more WorldSBK points in Hungary

Superbike Advocates Racing and rider Tommy Bridewell continue to enjoy the fourth WorldSBK round at Balaton Park in Hungary, as the weekend’s action continued today with Superpole qualifying and Race 1.

Lying twelfth after Friday’s practice sessions, Bridewell headed back on track this morning for the final free practice. The British rider used this brief phase to make final adjustments to his Ducati Panigale V4R ahead of the qualifying. Once the Superpole got underway at 11am local time, Bridewell put in a total of six laps. His penultimate lap, completed in 1’39.908, was his fastest, a reference that saw him position sixteenth at the session’s end. A subsequent penalty for a rival meant that Bridewell actually lined up on row five of the grid, in fifteenth place, for the afternoon’s first race.

Competing at Balaton Park for the first time, Bridewell worked fast to get into a consistent rhythm as the lights went out on Race 1. Moving up into thirteenth in the early stages, he found himself in the middle of a large chasing pack. At a track seemingly suited to the Ducati, the Superbike Advocates Racing rider set his fastest time on lap ten. Keeping his head down and his pace consistent throughout the second half of the race, a determined Bridewell again finished inside the points zone, in fourteenth position.

This fourth WorldSBK round will conclude tomorrow, when Superbike Advocates Racing will line up for the Superpole race and Race 2.

“Not too bad a race today, it’s another points-scoring result. Right now, we’re losing a little through the initial laps, and I need to understand how to make a bit of a jump there. My race pace is generally strong; I’m just losing ground in those first few laps. But another strong race overall and I’m really happy for me and the team; we just need to keep working and building and doing what we’re doing.”
