Massimo Tamburini

Massimo Tamburini was one of the pillars of the prestigious Bimota brand in Rimini, which he founded in 1973 together with his colleagues Bianchi and Morri. Tamburini has always followed an idea in his creations, namely to create, in his own words, "a 750 cc motorcycle with the power of a 1,000 and the weight of a 500. For a bike it matters to be light.” 

After eleven years at Bimota, Tamburini joined Roberto Gallina's team in 500 cc, but later began working on the Castiglioni brothers' ambitious project to relaunch the Cagiva brand. 

The Castiglioni brothers' acquisition of Ducati meant that this engineer began working on the development of the new Ducati bikes.

With an elegant and sporty style, one of the first models he created was the Ducati Paso 750, being characterised by a cutting-edge line also due to its showy fairing. 

But it was in 1993 that Tamburini's most famous creation was born: the Ducati 916, one of the most influential bikes as for design at the end of the 20th century. This bike was so beautiful and so well designed that for many years Ducati only made minor changes to it, by considerably increasing the value of second-hand models. 

It is undeniable that the ingenious Tamburini broke all the mould of the time, by creating a bike that was influential for over a decade and whose line is still unparalleled today.

When he started working for the Bolognese company, he had very clear ideas about what was a real Ducati for him: a bike that did not have to imitate Japanese creations, but to shape its own peculiar style. 

In 1997 Tamburini decided to continue working for Cagiva group and to design MV Agusta bikes of the future.
