The sheer beauty of our sport

“A second place that is worth a win”: the old adage cannot be more fitting as it sound so true for Pecco on Sunday. And not only because it allowed him to recover precious world championship points in a race that opens the decisive period for assigning the titles but also, and above all, for how it unfolded.

A courageous choice, and alas somewhat lucky, one of those fortunes that a rider seeks, which saw Pecco remain on the track in front of everyone, and therefore without references, in a very difficult situation in which it could have taken nothing to slip and seriously compromise even the outcome of the championship.

On the contrary, Martin's risky strategy did not pay off. In fact, it relegated him to the back, putting an end to his race: it goes without saying that it is always easy to talk with hindsight, and how thin the line is that divides the heaviest criticism from the exaltation for a well taken decision.

On the other hand, the one who once again showed not only how comfortable he feels in extreme situations but also how he can get the best out of himself was an irrepressible Marc Marquez, the fastest to adapt to the track conditions, recovering from sixth position and thus demonstrating all his talent, after starting ninth on the grid.

To call a spade a spade, he was also the one who had the least to lose, but that's it: Pecco tried to win, without forcing unnecessarily, but at a certain point Marquez, today the fittest, definitively reaffirmed his first position and there was nothing that could be done.

On a track that doesn’t concede many chances of overtaking, what should have been a race pointing at a duel between the two main contenders was instead reshuffled by the changing weather conditions and by the choices of the individuals, which all made it more nail biting and exciting, involving other riders in the contest, such as an excellent and competitive Enea and an indomitable Bezzecchi in a home GP that both honoured in the best possible way. Bravi!

Once again we saw how everything can change from one moment to the next: it is the sheer beauty of our sport, its best promotion, but this must also be a warning to never give up and stay focussed until the end.

Come on, Ducati!
