Top 10 for Calvin Vlaanderen in Race Two in Trentino

  • Solid race in Pietramurata for Calvin Vlaanderen

The Grand Prix of Trentino, the fifth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, took place today at the Pietramurata track, in the splendid Dolomite setting, in northern Italy. After a sunny day on Saturday, rain soaked the track, changing its conditions for the two Grand Prix motos.

Calvin Vlaanderen put in a solid race, starting in the top 15 at the start of the first heat, finishing in 13th place. In the second heat of the day, the Red Bull Ducati Factory MXGP Team rider started 14th and immediately found a good feeling with the track, climbing with his Desmo450 MX bike at an increasing pace until he crossed the finish line in ninth place, maintaining his 10th place in the championship standings. After a strong qualifying race on Saturday, Andrea Bonacorsi started the first heat in 15th place, finishing in 16th. The second start of the day saw him battle for fifteenth place, which he maintained until lap six before a late drop relegated him to 22nd. It was an unlucky race for Jeremy Seewer, who got off to a good start in the first heat but couldn't find the best pace, finishing 21st. In the second heat, the Swiss rider found another strong start and was fighting for a good result, when a collision with another rider on a jump, caused an heavy crash, forced him to retire.

Calvin Vlaanderen: “Arco is down, results on paper don't really show our potential; obviously these results aren't what we wanted but I can't be too disappointed about my riding. I think I rode well the whole weekend which is a shame with how it went; I had a couple crashes yesterday and then today again, otherwise I think I could've had two races inside top ten. So all in all we keep working hard and come back in France 100% ready and then try to fight at the front.”   Andrea Bonacorsi: “We surely have made a step forward from Riola even if I couldn't find the right feeling with the track and I couldn't find my rhythm. I struggled a bit but we're staying positive; now we have a month of time to work and come back at our best in France.”   Jeremy Seewer: “Thought weekend we had some positives. First start was pretty good and then for the firsts laps it was okay until I couldn't manage anymore. Second moto I was feeling the best since a long time and I could actually push a bit, I was about to make some good passes and I had good rhythm. Unfortunately I had bad luck jumping together with Van doninck, which was a racing incident. One of the biggest crashes I had in a long time so I'm happy I'm not injured. It was another important weekend to understand what we have to fix.”
Ferruccio Zanchi had an unlucky start in race one, with the Italian crashing on the first corner and managing to fight his way up from last place to finish 15th. At the start of race two, "Ferro" got off to a good start on his Desmo250 MX bike and was fifth at the second turn; however a rider crashed in front of him, slowing him down and causing him to lose several positions. The Beddini Racing Ducati Factory MX2 Team rider, however, was comfortable on the twisty Trentino track and climbed up to seventh place, which he maintained until five laps from the end, when a technical problem forced him to retire.   Ferruccio Zanchi: “Race one we had a good start but then I fell, I had to come back and I had good rhythm but once again the results did not show what we were doing right. In race two finally I had a good start, I was doing a nice race and I was seventh; I had good rhythm and the bike was good but then we had a probled with five laps to go. The second manche gave up some good feedback and we are working nicely, the results will come but now in the month of break we're gonna work even harder.”

Qualifying with the second-fastest time in Saturday's timed practice session, Simone Mancini crashed at the first turn of the first race due to contact. Restarting in 38th place, the Beddini Racing Ducati Factory MX2 Team rider was working his way up toward the points zone when a rider he had just passed hit him, causing him to crash. Taken to the medical center, the rider from the Marche region was given the all-clear to compete in Sunday's second race, where he managed to finish in 10th place, despite the after-effects of the previous day's crash, completing a strong comeback race.   Simone Mancini: “It was an unlucky weekend; it's a shame because it started well with second place in qualifying, then a bad crash in race one put me out of contention. Today I was given the all-clear from the doctors to race, and after starting in twenty-second place, I worked my way up to tenth, putting in a good performance. These aren't the positions we're aiming for, but we'll keep going, to show our true worth.”
