A technical problem at mid-race ruined the final result of Michael Rinaldi at Villicum Circuit, Argentina. The Barni Racing Team rider was able to adapt to the challenging conditions of the track surface throughout each hot sessions setting the sixth fastest time in Superpole. Unfortunately in race 1 Rinaldi had slowed down due to a technical problem on his Ducati Panigale V4 R, which forced him to head to the pit. The rider and team then decided to finish the race by crossing the finishline in twelfth place and put into the pocket four more points in the overall Championship standings.
The track conditions were the key factor of the day. After the FP3 ended with the ninth fastest time by a 1'40.787, the soaring temperatures up to 48 °C on the tarmac made the track dusty and slippery so that for all riders was impossible to repeat the times of the morning. Rinaldi was able to make the most of this precarious situation of grip and with a time of 1'42.061 he secured the sixth position in the starting grid.
Getting away from the second row, the rider from Santarcangelo di Romagna had to become familiar with the extremely slippery conditions of the track: after a cautious start he managed to take a good rhythm keeping up with the pace of the leading group of five until a technical problem forced him to slow down the pace. Back in the pit with three laps to go, the #21 decided to return to the track to take four points in the championship standings that allow him to climb to 113 points, just one point far from twelfth place in the timesheet occupied by Loris Baz.
Tomorrow lower temperatures are expected, hopefully this should improve the grip of the surface. The Superpole Race will start at 1 pm local time (6 pm CET), the start of race 2 will be at 4 pm in San Juan, (9 pm Italian time).
Marco Barnabò - Team Principal
"We did a great job in Superpole placing the bike in the second row, but in the race we were moved back by a problem that we had never had in the whole season. The guys are already working on the bike trying to figure out what didn't work because tomorrow we can get a second chance for a good result".
Michael Ruben Rinaldi #21 Superpole: P6 - Race 1: P12
"I’m really disappointed because I had a good qualifying and in the race I was coming back on Lowes to play for fifth place, but suddenly something happened on the bike and not to doing worse damage I could not push anymore. I also went back to the pit, but I decided to finish the race to take home four points in the championship standings. In the Free Practice and in Superpole I showed that this is not our real value on this track, tomorrow I hope I can demonstrate it also in the race".
