WDW 2022 | Race of Champions

Panigale V4 and
Panigale V2

Discover the bikes on which the 21 Ducati riders competed at the Race of Champions, Saturday 23 July at World Ducati Week.

The Panigale family, which positions at the very top of the Ducati sport bike range, is the ultimate expression of the continuous exchange of information and technologies between the racing world and the production bikes. The Panigale V4 project perfectly embodies the uniqueness of a brand that works to ensure everything conceived for the racetrack can subsequently feature on the bikes destined to customers. A bike that is as high-performance in the hands of the professionals as it is gratifying for amateurs, it is often used by Ducati riders during training sessions. Currently on track in the Supersport Next Gen championship and in various national series, Panigale V2 upholds the sporting tradition of the multi-titled Ducati twins.

And so it is no coincidence that Panigale bikes will play a starring role in the “Race of Champions”, which took place on Saturday 23 July during World Ducati Week 2022 and saw 21 Ducati riders from the MotoGP and Superbike championships battling it out around the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Given that the Panigale V2 and Panigale V4 derive directly from the racing models, both can be made track-ready with just a few targeted modifications and parts sourced from the Ducati Performance catalogue.

The Ducati Panigale V4 bikes shed the components required for road homologation, which are replaced by covers for the headlight, plate holder and mirrors. The riding position is customised with the adoption of adjustable rider footpegs machined from solid with carbon fibre heel guards, a larger windscreen and grip pads for the tank.

The six Panigale V2 bikes flaunt a race-inspired livery, each then customised with the number of the rider who will race it so that it is truly a one-off.

Similarly, each of the fifteen Panigale V4S bikes will be transformed into a true collector’s item, as distinguished as any Ducati race bike, rendered unique with a livery that faithfully replicates that of the team of each rider competing in the Race of Champions. Various details are airbrushed, while the liberal use of neon paint makes for more vivid colours-schemes. Painstaking attention is paid to the different shades.

Four tanks see paint applied directly to their brushed aluminium surface, left partly visible thanks to a special painting technique and the application of specific transparent paint. Each front plexiglass is airbrushed and stickered on the inside to prevent the graphics from sustaining damage during the race or any subsequent appearance. As a result, each Race of Champions Panigale V4S is a unique bike, the value of which vastly exceeds that of the already exquisite technical material.
