Scrambler 250

An icon of freedom and versatility.

Introduced in 1962, the 250 Scrambler was developed at the request of U.S. importer Joe Berliner, owner of the Berliner Motor Corporation, who recognized the need for a motorcycle capable of appealing to the American market. In the United States, Berliner had requested a “dirt track” motorcycle—that is, a street bike modified to handle off-road terrain.

The first generation shared the same engine type and displacement as the Diana 250, distinguishing itself with a clean, sleek design, high handlebars, and knobby tires—features that immediately defined its versatile character. Equipped with a four-stroke single-cylinder engine, renowned for its reliability and performance, the 250 Scrambler proves to be agile, easy to ride, and suited for dynamic use, both on and off the road.

Over the years, the model also evolved from a technical standpoint: in 1968, the version with the “wide crankcase” engine was introduced, shared with the 250, 350, and 450 cc models, which contributed significantly to its commercial success. The various engine displacements of the Scrambler were distinguished by three specific color schemes: ochre yellow, orange, and bright yellow.

Initially intended exclusively for the U.S. market, the Scrambler did not arrive in Italy until 1969. There, thanks to a new marketing strategy and the cultural context of the late 1960s, it quickly became a generational icon.
