Discover moreIt wasn’t exactly the trip my friends and I had planned. Our initial goal was to travel through Turkey and Georgia on our motorcycles. However, due to adverse weather conditions—namely snow—we had to revise our plans. And so we found ourselves on the roads of Eastern Europe. Was it a shame? Perhaps, because it wasn’t our destination. But that’s what motorcycle travel is all about: discovery, adventure, friendship, and the unexpected.
We set off from Krosno, Poland, a city renowned for its glass and crystal manufacturing. From there, we headed down to Slovakia and then on to Hungary, where we made a short stop before getting back on our bikes and reaching Novi Sad, a city in northern Serbia on the banks of the Danube River. We spent the night there.
The next day, we headed straight through Bulgaria to finally reach Turkey, specifically the thermal baths of Pamukkale, which means “cotton castle” in Turkish. From here, via a few dirt roads, we reached the arid region of Cappadocia and finally climbed Mount Nemrut.
I think that was the moment of the entire trip that I will carry in my heart. Climbing to the top of the mountain, just over 2,000 meters, was a unique experience. Mount Nemrut is one of the most evocative archaeological sites in Turkey, with ancient statues and breathtaking scenery.
We also made sure to visit Lake Van, which, in addition to being a salt lake, is the largest in Turkey. And then there is the majestic and imposing Mount Ararat: a dormant volcano over 5,000 meters high.
After a well-deserved break, we also reached Georgia: we managed to visit Gori, Poti, and Batumi. Finally, the trip ended with the return journey: from Georgia to Poland. My advice to all travelers on two wheels is: get on your bike and travel. Travel a lot.
The Multistrada is an excellent motorcycle for long distances: comfortable for both the rider and passenger, compact and reliable.
